Nick Phillips, vice president of Jazz and Catalog A&R at Concord Records, has been with the company since 1987. He quickly ascended up the ranks to work in the studio with founder Carl Jefferson. Phillips focuses on compilations and reissue projects. He also is a trumpeter and composer. Phillips realizes the importance of an education in jazz; he is involved in workshops and other programs. In the studio, he sees both sides of the coin - artists who are educated and prepared and those who are not.
