Solo, Interaktion und Ensemblespiel – Handlungstheoretische Überlegungen zu Dimensionen der Improvisation im Jazz (Solo, interaction and ensemble play - action theory considerations for dimensions of improvisation in jazz)

Cross-genre improvisation is a characteristic of jazz music, the understanding of its structure is a central task of philosophical preoccupation with jazz as an artistic practice. In this article, I analyze the structure of the interaction between musicians working together using basic action theory terms. I argue that interaction plays a role in solo improvisation as well as in various forms of joint improvisation and ensemble playing.
