Cross-genre improvisation is a characteristic of jazz music, the understanding of its structure is a central task of philosophical preoccupation with jazz as an artistic practice. In this article, I analyze the structure of the interaction between musicians working together using basic action theory terms. I argue that interaction plays a role in solo improvisation as well as in various forms of joint improvisation and ensemble playing. This provides access to the practice of jazz music. <br> <br> Improvisation is a cross-genre characteristic of jazz music, the structure of which is to understand the central task of philosophical preoccupation with jazz as an artistic practice.
