Once jazz and other types of African American art entered the mainstream it became diluted and was often used in commercial exploitation. Radio broadcasting was a sector of the entertainment industry where this exploitation and racial exclusion were felt, although some African Americans were able to have their music played on the radio during the Jazz Age.
