On the day of the liberation, in 1945 a black man at the head of the liberators marched on the Market Square of Terneuzen. What nobody could have imagined at the time was that this man, Frank Koulen, would bring Terneuzen a lot. He became the founder and manager of the jazz stage Porgy and Bess and knew greats such as Boy Edgar, Jimmy Witherspoon, Art Blakey and Chet Baker. Frank Koulen brought a mix of jazz and fun, a Dutch version of the Mardi Gras, from New Orleans with a detour via Ghent, to the Netherlands. a lunchroom transforms into the jazz stage of the South West Netherlands. He brings big names to Terneuzen and arranges radio broadcasts and recordings. A unique and energetic man. Artists are pampered by him and they walk away with him. An image of forty years of Porgy in the polder, with the lyrics from? Porgy and Bess? in a special role.0.
