This handbook contains news and information on all those Italian artists who perform, authors, arrangers, ensembles - who to some extent have drawn inspiration and stylistic elements from their own language for jazz production. In Italy the first attempts date back to the early 1930s (as "That tune that I like so much", engraved by Pippo Barzizza's Blue Star in 1933); at that time there were three adjectives for this genre of songs: "rhythmic", "modern" or "syncopated". The syncopated music was jazz, and the song syncopated the vocal swing. But the Italian way to swing was very steep, tortuous, and rarely got the right recognition, except in the case of an outsider like Paolo Conte, never in much more recent years
